The Role
Day to day provision of a specialised orthodontic technical service for the Consultant Orthodontist in University Hospital Wishaw. However, from time to time the post-holder will be required to work in the dental laboratories in Monklands and Hairmyres Hospitals to provide specialised orthodontic technical service for the Consultant Orthodontists based in these hospitals. If required the post holder will also be expected to participate in the provision of a routine denture and appliance service for the Public Dental Service
Provision of support to the multi-disciplinary Dental Technical service in Lanarkshire and work in any of the three hospital sites in Lanarkshire with dental laboratories

What we'll need you to bring
- BSc in Dental Technology or relevant equivalent e.g. HNC (essential)
- Registration with the General Dental Council as a Dental Technician (essential)
- Postgraduate qualification in Orthodontic Technology or equivalent. (e.g. City and Guilds Advanced Orthodontic Qualification) (essential)
- Licentiate membership of the Orthodontic Technicians Association (desirable)
- Experience of or training in managing laboratory resources and time management (desirable)
- Experienced in making decisions, organising, persuading, influencing and communicating with dental staff (essential)
- Sound knowledge of current legislation e.g. Health and Safety, COSSH, Medical Devices Directive and other statutory policies and practices (essential).
- Capable of maintaining periods of prolonged/intense concentration (essential)
- High level of Manual Dexterity (essential)
- Good organisational skills (essential)
- Good communication skills both oral and written (essential).
- Self motivation (essential)
- Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise as necessary (essential).
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality (essential)
- Instructing experience for training of student technicians and dental nurses (desirable)
- Knowledge of diagnostic techniques related to orthodontics (desirable)
- Computer skills and proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite (Word & Excel) and e-mail for the management and frequent use of computerised systems and to send/receive information (essential)
- Have a full driving licence and access to a car (essential).
- Evidence of ongoing participation in Continued Professional Development to maintain professional registration (essential)
It would be great if you also have:
- Licentiate membership of the Orthodontic Technicians Association
- Experience of or training in managing laboratory resources and time management
- Instructing experience for training of student technicians and dental nurses
- Knowledge of diagnostic techniques related to orthodontics
