Hours: 30 hours x two posts – shiftwork and weekends
The Hospital at Home Teams within Fife provide a service for the frail elderly population (predominantly over 65yrs), which prevents acute hospital admission or facilitates earlier discharge where acute hospital admission has taken place. It allows people to have a period of “acute” medical care within their own home, which will in turn allow the person to recover from a period of illness without needing hospital admission.
We are seeking two Nurse Practitioner to join our well established Hospital at Home service within Queen Margaret Hospital.
You will be required to deliver a high standard of safe and effective acute medical patient care within patient’s homes and must have the ability to work autonomously in this evolving service. You should ideally have a clinical decision making qualification at degree level or above. This should include the ability to work autonomously as a Nurse Practitioner as well as having clinical skills including venepuncture, ECG, IV additives and cannulation. A non-medical prescribing qualification would be desirable but not essential; however, it would be a requirement to undertake this within 18 months of employment.
Individuals who meet the full requirements for Nurse Practitioner will commence on Band 6. Those applicants who are interested in developing into the role following the successful completion of academic qualifications will commence on Band 5 in line with Annex 21(pay and banding of trainees). On successful completion of this programme you will be transferred to Band 6.
You will have good communication skills, be proactive in your own development and have a flexible attitude to work. The ability to travel within the area in a timely manner is essential in order to respond to acute clinical needs of individuals across the community of Fife.
This post involves flexibility to work over a 7 day period, working shifts covering the period from 08.00 – 22.00 On appointment the successful candidates will be based at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline. Cross team working is an expectation of the role to support the whole system.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
