Band 4 Assistant Practitioner – Learning Disability Service
Location: West Argyll (MAKI and OLI)
Salary: £27,598 - £30,019 pro rata
Contract: 18.5 hours 0.5WTE Fixed term 2 years
About us
The Learning Disability service provides a specialist multi disciplinary service to Adults with a Learning Disability that require specialist health intervention that cannot be met by local mainstream services across all of Argyll and Bute
The Specialist Health Team consists of a Professional Lead, Specialist Nurses, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language therapy, Physiotherapy, Consultant Psychology, Consultant Psychiatry and Medical Secretaries
The Service has an open referral system and all referrals are discussed at a weekly allocation meeting
About the role
An opportunity has arisen for Band 4 Assistant Practitioner to join the Adult Learning Disability Team to provide a service with the Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) in our team, mainly the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
The role is crucial in terms of the smooth day to day running for the AHP’s and you will support with their caseloads, working flexibly across all aspects of our service. You will work under the supervision of a registered Allied Health Professional and use specialist assessment and rehabilitation skills with your own caseload supporting adults with a Learning Disability to maximize their independence.
About you
You should be confident, have great communication skills and either previous experience at relevant Senior HCSW level: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Rehab Nursing, or experience of working within an existing role as a Band 3 Assistant or Band 4 Assistant Practitioner. It is essential that you can drive, have excellent organisational and IT skills and an ability to prioritise a varied workload.
- Current UK Driving Licence (essential)
- The post holder can be based in Lochgilphead or Oban as will be covering these areas

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
