JOB TITLE:  STP CLINICAL VASCULAR SCIENTIST TRAINEE

Vascular Scientists are integral to the Vascular Surgical team and, through the application of scientific knowledge and highly specialised ultrasound skills, play a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake the National School of Healthcare Science Scientist Training Programme (STP) in Vascular Science which compromises a part-time MSc in Clinical Science at Newcastle University alongside a programme of work-based learning in NHS Lothian.

NHS Education for Scotland, in partnership with NHS Boards, offers supernumerary training opportunities to high quality science graduates who are passionate about science, its role in modern healthcare, and are committed to NHS Scotland. As part of our healthcare science team, you will join a fixed term training programme as an NHS Board employee. Your training will lead towards Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration http://www.hcpc-uk.org as a Clinical Vascular Scientist aligned with the framework for UK-wide Modernising Scientific Careers.  Funding for training and course fees will be provided.

Applications are invited from candidates with a First or 2:1 BSc (Hons) Science Degree.  The successful candidate will be offered a 3 year contract of employment, starting in September 2024 with NHS Lothian at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.  The training will be based in the Vascular Laboratory and will include rotations across a range of specialties allowing trainees to build a portfolio for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.

This is clinical role and as such, you will work closely with patients every day so it is essential that you have excellent communication and teamworking skills

For all informal enquiries or to arrange a visit, please contact Karen Gallagher, Lead Clinical Vascular Scientist or Heather Anderson, Senior Clinical Vascular Scientist on 0131 242 3605.
