As a vital part of NHS Scotland, NHS National Services Scotland's mission is to be integral to a world leading health service, supporting Scotland's health.  The Central Legal Office (CLO), as part of NHS National Services Scotland, provides legal services to all of Scotland Health Boards. It operates a team and Department based structure, covering Litigation, Employment, Commercial Contracts and Commercial Property.  Each of the Departments comprise of experienced solicitors and support staff committed to delivering a responsive and cost-effective service to clients across NHS Scotland and the wider public sector.

There are two posts available - one in the Commercial Contracts Department; and the other in the Litigation Department. .

The Candidate

Solicitor Post x 1 - Commercial Contracts Team – Job Reference 189020.

Due to the way in which NHS Scotland roles are graded, a single generic job description for a litigation solicitor is used by CLO in connection with all its solicitor recruitments. Accordingly, any elements of the job description which do not relate to the CLO Commercial Contracts Team should be disregarded and a job outline for the solicitor job is available to provide further detail.

You will be a solicitor with around three to five years post qualifying experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. You will join a team that delivers a comprehensive commercial contracts service to the NHS in Scotland, as well as to the wider public sector.  Knowledge of data protection would be useful but is not essential.  You will have a challenging and varied workload of large and small transactions and will also provide general commercial contracts advice to clients.  You will have experience managing your own workload and be accustomed to dealing with a diverse range of clients at differing levels of seniority.

The Candidate

Solicitor Post x 1 – Litigation Team – Job Reference 190231

This post is an exciting opportunity to join the Litigation Department and work in a team that delivers a comprehensive litigation service to the NHS in Scotland. The Department is looking for a solicitor to join our busy litigation teams either to support the work being done for Scottish Health Boards during the Covid-19 Public Inquiry, or to back-fill for existing clinical negligence solicitors who are drawn into the Inquiry work.

You will have an interesting and diverse workload and enjoy all aspects of contentious and non-contentious legal work. You will be a team player and enjoy working in a supportive collegiate environment. The posts would be especially suitable for qualified solicitors whose post-qualifying experience has given them the skill to manage their own caseload.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location and Working Pattern:

Anderson House, Edinburgh, however a move to Gyle Square, Edinburgh is planned in 2024.

Currently hybrid working. Please note, however, that you will be expected to attend the office at least one day each week.

The work pattern is Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
