Band 7 or B6 Development Post (Annex 21) – B7 following completion of training*
An opportunity has arisen for a flexible, enthusiastic Non-Medical Endoscopist Practitioner within our Endoscopy Department. With a primary focus on Colonoscopies.
The practitioner will have/develop high levels of decision making and clinical judgment, be able to work independently and in conjunction with other health professionals. You will begin training on the NES Non-Medical Endoscopy Course in Autumn 2023 to begin training in Colonoscopy along with support from our Lead Consultant in Gastroenterology with training lists within the BGH Endoscopy Unit.
You will assess, diagnose and initiate treatment, investigations, advice and management of patients using professional decision-making processes to ensure safe, patient centred care. This will be facilitated in partnership with patients, carers and families. You will provide specialist advice to healthcare professionals, other agencies, carers, clients and relatives. The role encompasses that of expert clinician, and they must possess the ability to prioritise fluctuating workloads, remain focused, work across professional boundaries and be flexible.
They will assist the service to improve practice and work collaboratively across healthcare boundaries, implementing and evaluating evidence based standards, guidelines and policies.

Please note that the Band 7 post will be dependent on the completion of the NES Non-Medical Endoscopy Course with all competencies fully signed off.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
