Job Advert

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

A fundamental part of Cancer Services in Tayside is the tracking of cancer patients through their pathways, and to Multi Disciplinary Team Meetings (MDM), where patients’ diagnoses and best future management of their condition is discussed.

We require an experienced administrator with relevant knowledge of NHS Systems, who can join us on a fixed term basis and help support cancer patient pathways.  This is challenging work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team environment, where the post holder will be responsible for prioritising and scheduling their own workload.

The MDM Coordinator/Cancer Tracker will work with the Cancer Information and Audit Team, cancer clinicians and other NHS staff in Tayside and North East Fife to:

  • To understand and implement the National Cancer Waiting Time performance standards (e.g. 31- and 62-day targets).
  • Track patients along cancer pathways to ensure all national and local cancer targets are met.
  • Proactively monitor and progress patient Cancer Pathways, implementing escalation and access policies to drive cancer diagnostic and treatment activity while supporting the delivery of the best patient outcomes.
  • Maintaining Cancer Database systems and Patient Tracking List/s (PTLs), collecting and recording a wide range of cancer data as required to carefully monitor patient diagnostic and treatment activity, and ensure accurate and timely Cancer Waiting Times reporting / submissions.
  • Coordinate regular multi disciplinary team meetings (MDMs) for patients diagnosed with cancer(s) to ensure that the journey of each cancer patient runs smoothly and is progressed in a seamless manner.
  • Capture decisions, outcomes and treatment plans discussed in MDT meetings.
  • Provide cover and support within the wider Cancer Information and Audit Team where required.

Applicants must have the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy whilst working to strict deadlines and be able to adapt to the needs of the service.

Secretarial / Business Administration qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience. Experience using Microsoft Office suite of applications is also essential.

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
