The ESTEEM Specialty Doctor works closely with the multi-disciplinary team and sector Community Mental Health Teams, Social Work and Voluntary Organisations to provide a comprehensive service, including inpatient and outpatient treatment. It is expected that the successful applicant would be an Approved Medical Practitioner in terms of the Mental Health (Care & Treatment)(Scotland) Act 2003 by the time of appointment. Esteem (early intervention psychosis team) is a well-established model in Glasgow. It targets all new presentation of psychotic illness and provides continued input for the first 2 years. The aim is to provide maximum functional recovery during this period and improve longer-term outcomes. It is
expected that all team members will work closely with carers and provide psychosocial interventions where appropriate. The service model is based on early intervention philosophy and the Glasgow Integrated Care Pathway for Psychosis. The aims are to minimise the duration of untreated psychosis, minimise trauma, promote recovery and functional outcome and provide support to families. There will be caseloads for each key worker and that members of staff provide an active occupational therapy programme and psychosocial interventions, including family
work and cognitive behavioural therapy.
