Applications are invited for the above fixed term full time posts, which are rotational between Borders General Hospital, Melrose (8 months) and the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh (4 months).  These posts are not recognised training grades but may be the right opportunity for you to develop and evidence clinical and professional competence to assist overall career development.


These posts offer excellent experience for those considering career in General or Acute Medicine and sub specialties.  Sub specialty experience in Endocrinology and Diabetes will be provided during the WGH placement, sub specialty experience at BGH is negotiable depending on your interests for example Endocrinology and Diabetes, Respiratory Medicine and Nephrology/Renal Medicine.


There will be opportunities to participate in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and perform quality improvement projects.


Full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and a current licence to practice are essential. You should have clinical experience at least at ST1 – ST2 level particularly in general and acute medicine and medical sub specialties.  You should have sufficient experience to be competent (with appropriate support) to act at “registrar” level e.g. HAN Team Leader, senior trainee on MAU, lead ward doctor supervising foundation trainees.  Full MRCP is desirable.
