Job Advert

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are invited from candidates with a First or Upper Second Class BSc Honours Degree in Genetics or an appropriate biological subject as a minimum for entry to the NHS Scotland post-graduate training scheme for Genomics and Molecular Pathology. A training post is available in the Regional Genetic Laboratory Service, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee from September 2024. The laboratory provides a high-quality genomic testing service for NHS Tayside and the rest of Scotland through the Scottish Genomic Strategic Network. Co-located with other laboratory disciplines within Ninewells Hospital, the laboratory provides a testing service for inherited conditions, acquired disease (solid and haematological malignancies) and pharmacogenomics.

The Dundee laboratory offers high standards in terms of facilities and expertise to support trainees. Training will follow an agreed training programme framework, which will enable the trainee to build a portfolio of evidence for assessment and subsequent registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist.

Clinical Scientist training within Genomics and Molecular Pathology is supported by NHS Education for Scotland. Additional training posts may be available, as part of the same scheme, within the Regional Genetic Laboratories in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Posts within each Regional Genetics Laboratory are being advertised separately.

Hours – 37 hours per week.  Fixed Term/Secondment for 3 Years

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Short-listed applicants will be contacted by email.   Please check your emails regularly, including your junk/spam folder.
