This is a National Training Post designed to lead to registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Healthcare Professions Council and will be based at the Assisted Conception Unit within Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.


We are looking to recruit a National NES (NHS Education for Scotland) Trainee Clinical Embryologist to join our dedicated and successful team.


Ninewells Hospital is a large NHS teaching hospital located in Dundee. The Assisted

Conception Unit was established over 30 years ago, has a state of the art facility and is run

by a very experienced multidisciplinary team.


We perform approximately 450 fresh cycles of IVF / ICSI per year, mostly funded by the NHS, and a further 250 Frozen embryo transfer. We also run a fertility preservation service and a donor sperm bank. The regional diagnostic andrology service is also run through the Assisted

Conception Unit.


The post holder will join a team of dedicated embryologists and andrologists and under supervision of the Lead Clinical Embryologist will become proficient and participate in all embryology and andrology procedures for the assessment and treatment of infertility.  These include in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), gamete recruitment and donation, gamete and embryo cryopreservation and surgical sperm retrieval.

 

The post holder will be expected to undertake training and deliver clinical work at an exceptionally high standard, with meticulous attention to detail.

 

A recognised Life Sciences degree awarded at 2;2 or above with a related MSc or PhD is essential.

 

A presentation will be required at interview; details of the topic will be sent to those

Hours of work are: 37 hours per week.  Fixed Term/Secondment for 3 Years.


You will be required to comply with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland throughout your employment.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
