Post:   CONSULTANT General SURGEON WITH AN INTEREST In BENIGN upper gi surgery

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant post based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QUEH). Applications from candidates with an interest in Benign Upper GI surgery would be welcome.

The new appointee will join a team of Consultants dedicated to providing all aspects of Surgery in general. The appointee will have a role in providing elective General Surgical Services and managing Acute Surgical Emergencies, in addition to supporting the further development of the Emergency Biliary Service.

In addition to providing clinical services the successful candidate will be required to participate in the training and assessment of junior staff and to undertake the administrative duties required in a consultant job. All consultants are required to have an annual appraisal.

Surgical trainees, at all levels, rotate from the West of Scotland Deanery and are based at the sites. Teaching of Undergraduate medical students, trainee surgeons and visiting surgeons from overseas is considered an integral part of the work of the Directorate.  It is anticipated that the appointee would contribute to the education of Surgeons in training.  

Emergency Surgery for the post is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with clinics and elective surgery split between there and the ambulatory care services at the New Victoria Hospital or Gartnaval General Hospital.  Fully staffed Intensive Care and High dependency beds are available on the QEUH site.  Clinical Nurse Specialists are valued members of the teams.

Applicants should have a broad surgical training and should have full GMC registration and eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register.  trainees will have evidence of Higher Specialist Training leading to CCT, or be six months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.  Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
