Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced nurse to join the team

Advanced Nurse Practitioner/Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner (General Surgery)_

If trainee- Annex 21 Band 7 whilst in training, Band 7 when training complete,

37 hrs per week,

General Surgery

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgical Nurse Practitioner team in Glasgow Royal Infirmary for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.  Would you like to work in an interesting, fast-moving environment where you will employ and develop a range of skills? Do you have a particular interest in working in an assessment and receiving unit, as well as providing support for a specialised group of patients?

The role of the ANP (Surgical) is to carry out initial assessment, management, and treatment of this patient group.  It is an autonomous role and although the assessment unit is supported by junior medical staff it is primarily a nurse-led area.  The Surgical Nurse Practitioner team also provide support to junior medical and nursing staff throughout the surgical wards in an effort to enhance patient experience and safety.

Substantial post-registration experience in a surgical ward environment is highly desirable and an interest in unscheduled care and the pressures involved would also be advantageous.  As this is an ANP post a recognised qualification in advanced practice at Master's level is essential, and this must include a recognised qualification in clinical and assessment and NMP.  Evidence of work-based learning specific to surgical presentations are essential for the band 7 ANP (Surgical) post.  The work-based learning should include evidence of competency in technical skills of venepuncture, cannulation, male catheterisation and ECG recording, as well as a portfolio of evidence of experience of common surgical presentations.  Evidence of competency in understanding blood results, basic interpretation of ECG, chest x-ray and abdominal x-ray as well as IRMER regulations are also essential to the role.

Applications will be considered from individuals who do not meet all of the above criteria as a training post will be considered. Please note a trainee post would be on annexe 21 band 7 until successful completion of training.

This post will carry a shift pattern which is rotational and will consist of 12 hour dayshifts, late-start dayshifts and nightshifts.  Weekend and Public Holiday working is also required for this post.
