Job Advert
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
In order to apply for this position you must have a Live PIN with the NMC.UK
Applications from 2023 Newly Qualified Nurse/Midwife, will not be considered for this post.
The shift pattern is: Mon-Sun 0715-1930hrs.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the developing Head Injury Advanced Practitioner (AP) Team based at the QEUH, Glasgow. The Head Injury AP Team forms part of the West of Scotland Major Trauma Service (WoS MTC). This role also contributes to the acute care and management of head injured patients admitted to the QEUH Adult Campus under the care of Emergency Medicine.
The Head Injury AP Team supports the care of Major Trauma patients with a head injury, throughout their pathway, from admission to discharge and with some post discharge liaison. This requires the AP to liaise with colleagues in a wide range of settings, for example Emergency Department, Critical Care, Major Trauma Ward, Neurosciences, and Neurorehabilitation and with patient’s healthcare services in their Board of residence.
Working across role and organisational boundaries the Advanced Practitioner (AP) will manage the complete clinical care for their patients utilising expert knowledge base and clinical competence to support multi-professional teams within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, ensuring a high standard of clinical care, in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Health and Safety Legislation and Health and Care Professions Council.
As a clinical leader, the AP has the freedom and authority to act autonomously in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, including prescribing, of patients with multi-dimensional problems. This includes the authority to refer, admit and discharge within appropriate clinical areas.
AP’s can work in or across all clinical settings, dependant on their area of expertise. We welcome applicants, with a minimum of four years post registration experience, from NMC registered nurses and/or Allied Health Professionals who are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council and can provide evidence of continuing professional development. Significant post registration experience within an acute care setting is essential with some at senior level desirable. Working within a Neurosurgical environment is desirable however, not essential.
Applicants should have or be working towards a Masters Level Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice. We may also consider applications for a trainee AP post (Annex 21) and will support the development of individuals to meet advanced practice competencies. This will be supported by a triangulation approach of academic courses, mentorship and clinical supervision.
