The Role
To lead, develop, deliver and evaluate the clinical pharmacy service to rheumatology patients in NHS Lanarkshire in accordance with the objectives set between the Head of Pharmacy, Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Services and Clinical Lead for Rheumatology.
This exciting development has resulted in a new role to provide clinical leadership to the rheumatology multidisciplinary team across NHSL to ensure the safe and effective delivery of medicines to rheumatology patients.
The post holder will lead and develop the clinical governance agenda and associated systems for medicines use within the rheumatology service including pathways for patients on disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologics and unlicensed medicines. This will include developing and reviewing clinical protocols and Patient Group Directions as well as undertaking quality improvement initiatives.
They will be a current independent prescriber and actively use their prescribing qualification as part of a team of non-medical and medical prescribers supporting patients requiring specialist rheumatology medicines. This post will lead on the safe initiation of biologics liaising closely with the Homecare team, managing biologic switch programs and monitoring cost effectiveness. They will provide clinical leadership and participate in commencing patients on DMARDs including monitoring during the first twelve weeks of therapy.

What we'll need you to bring
Masters degree in Pharmacy
Registered to practice with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Continuing Professional Development as detailed by the General Pharmaceutical Council (mandatory requirement)
Minimum 6 years hospital pharmacy experience with 4 years working within a clinical or technical speciality
Ability to monitor patient therapeutic regimens to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity.
Previous experience in delivering training and education at post-graduate level.
Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice.
Demonstrate advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement.
Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work to deadlines and manage resources
Participation in weekend and public holiday working
Participation in pharmacy emergency duty service (if appropriate)
Post graduate degree / diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Management
It would be great if you also have
Experience in the specialist area the post covers i.e. rheumatology.’ Independent Prescribing Qualification Ability to undertake the duties of pre-registration pharmacist tutor Ability to influence senior pharmacy medical and managerial staff and the multidisciplinary team. |

Location and Working Pattern
This role requires the ability to work across the three NHSL acute sites and can be based at either UH Hairmyres or UH Wishaw.
The working pattern for this role is Mon-Fri; 8:50 - 5:00.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
