Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) / Assistant Photography Practitioner to join our team of photographers, videographers and graphic designers in one of the largest medical illustration services in the UK. We provide a multi-skilled support service to NHS and University staff involved in patient care, teaching, education and research.

Your primary role is to work as part of the ophthalmic imaging team across the acute sites within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, performing OCT scans and routine ophthalmic imaging using a range of imaging equipment. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, with a high turnover of patients. You will also be required to provide assistance, administrative and image management support to staff in all areas of Medical Illustration Services. Depending on your skillset, there may be an opportunity to work towards a career in clinical photography, and to undertake non-clinical photographic activity, such as PR photography and staff portraiture.

You will have good communication and IT skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be required to communicate in an empathetic manner with patients, relatives and carers who may be emotionally distressed or who may have barriers to understanding, such as learning difficulties, language, hearing difficulties or visual impairment. You will be qualified to HND-level in photography or have equivalent qualifications and/or experience. You will be able to demonstrate an interest in ophthalmic imaging and other photographic systems. No previous experience in OCT is necessary as full training will be provided.

The post is full-time, 37 hours per week (5 days over 7, 365 days per year incl. PHs; requires 7.5 hrs and 12 hr shift working). This post is peripatetic therefore a full driving license and own transport is essential. You will be required to provide a weekly cross-cover photography service from any NHSGGC base according to the clinical needs of the service.

All applicants will be required to join the Disclosure Scotland PVG Scheme.

For an informal discussion or visit, please contact: Rebecca MacPhee, Photography Team Manager, on 0141 452 2880.
