Job Title:  LOCUM APPOINTMENT FOR TRAINING in TRAUMA & oRTHOPAEDIC sURGERY

The department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Services in NHS Fife wishes to appoint a locum appointment for training (LAT). This is a one year fixed-term post, August 24-Feb 25 is in Fife, the remaining 6 months may be in another board within the deanery area.  This is designed to allow the opportunity to build skills in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. This post is ideally suited to someone who is preparing to make an application for ST3 level NTN in Trauma and Orthopaedics, which previous post holders have successfully achieved.  The department has a strong record in research as well as links with Edinburgh and St Andrew's Universities. The post holder would be expected to assist with the teaching of medical students from St Andrews. They will be encouraged to undertake a research project and can apply to register for an MSc. There are ample opportunities to take part in either audit or quality improvement projects during the post. The candidate will take part in the middle grade on-call rota which is currently a 1:16 on-call rota.

The Board serves a catchment area with a population of 380,000 across Fife with the post being based at the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. A new elective unit – “National Treatment Centre – Fife Orthopaedics” has recently been built at the Victoria Hospital which is equipped with modern Orthopaedic theatres, wards and outpatient facilities. On occasion you may be required to work at one of the other facilities used by NHS Fife at Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline or St Andrews Memorial Hospital.

The Directorate provides out-patient clinics, Trauma and Elective surgery for adult and paediatric patientsthroughout the Fife area. There are currently 6 teams with Consultants providing general Orthopaedic services plus specialist care in Major Joint replacement and reconstruction, Arthroscopy, Lower and Upper Limb surgery, including Hand Surgery.
