This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. 

The post holder has professional and managerial responsibility for the large caseload of children and young people allocated to the specialist allergy service throughout Lothian and South East Scotland. Patient care is instigated in the acute setting and managed in the community with the support of the primary care team.


The Clinical Nurse Specialist works within the multidisciplinary allergy team to ensure optimum evidenced based care is provided to patients and their families. The Post holder will work autonomously in the assessment and management of patients in Nurse Led Allergy clinics. Supports the allergy Consultants to provide a multidisciplinary one stop clinic. The post holder also supports and advises to the General Paediatricians when children are admitted as emergencies to the Inpatient wards.


The post holder will share expert knowledge with professionals, patients and their families and in addition provide specialist education and training for healthcare professionals and other professional groups.


The post holder will undertake clinical audit and research activities ensuring evidence based practice in this speciality.
