The NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. Pharmaceutical care is provided by a team of around 100 pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and administrators, working across General Practices covering the whole of Edinburgh.

This post offers an exciting and unique opportunity in South East Edinburgh to work alongside the Primary Care Pharmacy Team to support the fuller implementation of pharmacotherapy.  South East Edinburgh have been successful at securing additional funding via the Scottish Government Phased Investment Programme.  These roles (2 x 0.5 WTE) will have designated time to lead the development of

  1. The Pharmacotherapy hub in South East Edinburgh, which will undertaken medicine reconciliation of Immediate Discharge Letters and Outpatient Letters (0.5 WTE).
  2. Support pharmacotherapy delivery in three of the enhanced practices, working alongside the Lead Pharmacy Technician to establish the role of The Pharmacy Support worker within the GP practice.

Who you are:

You are a dynamic, highly motivated and enthusiastic, GPhC registered pharmacist.

You will already be working within a GP practice as a pharmacist or have community/hospital pharmacy background and have transferrable skills for the role.  Candidates will have gained postgraduate experience working in a patient focused clinical environment, using their knowledge and skills to improve patient care and promote optimal outcomes from medicines. Candidates will have undertaken a postgraduate qualification at diploma level.  

You must be innovative, with strong leadership skills to manage and support the pharmacy team in primary care.  You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support patient care, staff management and engagement and close working with GP Practice Teams.   You should always be promoting NHS Lothian's values of quality, teamwork, care and compassion, dignity and respect, and openness, honesty and responsibility. You will have experience of involvement in the development and education of others.

You should have experience of leading projects, considering outcome measures, and analysing data.  Some experience in research and/or Quality Improvement methodology will be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
