NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. NHS Lothian are seeking to appoint to head of occupational health (OH) physiotherapy post. The post-holder will be responsible for managing the day to day organisation of the occupational health physiotherapy service.
The OH physiotherapy service is a professional service sitting within the occupational health and safety service. It provides occupational health physiotherapy care for musculoskeletal conditions and has delivery bases on the four main acute sites. OH physiotherapy is provided to all staff and independent contractors of NHS Lothian. The main aim is to enable staff remain at work, or if absent, to enable appropriate, safe and early return to work while reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injury.
You will be responsible for the line management of 15 staff members (12.57 wte staff) ranging from non-registered to registered staff, including area leads, senior specialist physiotherapists, specialist physiotherapists, and administrative staff. You will report to the Director of the Occupational Health and Safety Service.
You will work closely the multi-disciplinary team within the department – OH physician and nurses, staff counsellors, manual handling training, and health and safety professionals to promote service delivery in line with the Board and NHS Scotland strategy.
You will possess a high level of written and verbal communication using a variety of media. The ability to develop effective multi professional, multi-agency working relationships is an essential component of the post. The post requires ability to convey complex, sensitive and sometimes contentious or emotionally charged information to staff and other healthcare colleagues as individuals or in large groups.
You will have a physiotherapy degree (Masters Degree or equivalent level of training and experience) and be registered with the Health and Care Professions council (HCPC). You will also have significant and demonstrable experience as a highly specialist therapist within OH physiotherapy. You will be expected to be able to provide evidence of continuous and recent professional development acquired through formal post registration education.
