Pre-registration Supernumerary Clinical Scientist Training
Molecular Pathology (Genomics) (NHS Lothian)
Fixed Term for 3 years, 37 hrs per week
Applications are invited from candidates with a First or Upper Second-Class BSc Honours Degree in Genetics or an associated life science subject as a minimum for entry to the NHS Scotland post-graduate training scheme for Molecular Pathology (Genomics) based in Edinburgh supported by NHS Education for Scotland. The post will be based in the Molecular Pathology Laboratory (Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh & Western General Hospital). The department offers a high standard in terms of facilities and expertise to support trainees. Training will follow an agreed training programme framework, which will enable the trainees to build a portfolio of evidence for assessment and subsequent registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist.
Additional training posts are available within the Dundee and Glasgow Regional Genomics Laboratories and the S.E. Scotland Genetics Laboratory, Edinburgh and are being advertised separately. Training commences in September 2024 on a three-year fixed term contract of employment. Healthcare Science within the NHS has a well-defined career structure and continued professional development is actively encouraged.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
