 NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

General Medicine (South Sector) provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to the population of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and the West of Scotland.

The General Medicine inpatient service is primarily based at the QEUH and Gartnavel General Hospital. Outpatient services are located on four sites, Gartnavel General, New Victoria, West ACH and QEUH.

The service supports an extensive range of specialties and sub specialties, Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Cardiology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Immunology, support services of Respiratory and Cardiac Physiology.

The postholder will have overall responsibility for administrative services within the Sub-specialties they are responsible for, the job purpose includes:-

  • Direct Management of designated Specialty Waiting Lists and Waiting Times, ensuring compliance with Treatment Time Guarantees (TTG) and Waiting Time targets.
  • Pro-active lead role in Administration/Waiting List Training, management of waiting list coordinators and clerical staff to ensure compliance with waiting list procedures, in line with ‘New Ways’ procedures and the Patients’ Rights Act.
  • Ensure provision of effective administrative (clerical) services to support delivery of clinical services within area of responsibility.
  • Direct Line Management responsibility for designated speciality administration staff.


We are seeking an enthusiast Administration Manager who possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills and is keen to develop and support new ideas to improve the service provision to patients and support creating a sustainable workforce.

The ability to work under pressure, managing deadlines and responding to changing priorities is essential. Experience in waiting list management and staff management is essential.
