This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse to work within a friendly and supportive specialist multidisciplinary team. The Tayside Perinatal Mental Health Team works with women/birthing persons who are experiencing/or deemed to be at higher risk of experiencing severe mental illness or who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties, in pregnancy and in the postnatal period, up until their baby’s 1st birthday.  The post-holder will be based in Dundee. 


You must be registered on Sub-part 1: RN1 or RNA or Sub-part 2: RN2 of the UK NMC Register. Additional induction and training will be given relevant to speciality. You must be a Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability nurse on the UK NMC Register.


We are looking for an adaptable individual to join our friendly, supportive team, who has an interest in and relevant knowledge and experience of perinatal mental health.  The post-holder will require developed professional knowledge of perinatal mental health and ideally have acquired experience of working with women with perinatal mental illness.  The post-holder should have relevant post-registration experience, which should include experience within general adult mental health services and community working.  You must possess; excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, possess good organisational skills and be able to work confidently as an autonomous practitioner with minimal direction under supervision, to manage a complex clinical caseload.  You will be required to build effective, collaborative working relationships with a variety of different professionals and teams.  You will receive regular supervision and join the team clinicians to participate in monthly values-based reflective supervision group sessions.


The PNMHT operates as a “Hub and Spoke” model.  The Hub is based at Royal Victoria Hospital, Dundee, at a temporary location.  The service has 3 x Band 6 nurses, in total, who link with community locations (each linked to their own locality; Dundee, Perth or Angus) and the Hub.  Although the post holder will be based in Dundee, there is a requirement to travel across Tayside on occasions to support team colleagues and provide clinical cover, when necessary during periods of nursing colleague’s leave.  The post holder will be expected to attend the team’s main Hub in Dundee for weekly meetings and for any additional meetings, training, clinics etc.  Travel allowance is paid.


As part of this role, you will be expected to support the Team Leader develop and implement the Perinatal Mental Health Service for NHS Tayside and deputise during their leave.



The vision for the service: Women/birthing person(s) and their partners, infants and families receive the support they need in their own communities to ensure they experience optimal health and wellbeing, including mental wellbeing, during the perinatal period, so that their children get the best possible start in their lives, regardless of where they reside in Tayside.


The post holder will work alongside a range of professionals and stakeholders to deliver the service objectives to include:


  • Implement the integrated Hub and Spoke perinatal mental health model that enables women, their partners and families to be supported in their own communities, as part of a confident and competent workforce and makes the most effective use of resources across all sectors.


  • Work in partnership with the Maternity and Neonatal Psychology Service and the developing Infant Mental Health Service.


  • Provide standards of care that meet national recommended guidelines.


  • Wider education within the organisation of PNMH and the service provided by PNMHT.


  • Building effective and close working relationships in the delivery of services concerned with providing women’s care e.g. CMHTs, Third Sector agencies, maternity services, etc.


  • Data collection and service improvement.


  • Involved in the development of comprehensive care programs to meet the needs of perinatal women in the context of severe mental ill health/complex mental health issues.

Hours

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
