CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN

Raigmore Hospital, Inverness

£96,963 - £128,841 per annum

Full time – 10 PAs per week

We are currently looking to appoint a suitably qualified Consultant Paediatrician on a 10 PA basis.

We are looking for individuals who would relish the opportunities and challenges of delivering high quality care across the Highland Region. The post holder will have the opportunity to practise truly holistic Paediatric Medicine. The post would suit a Paediatrician with interest in Neonatology, or a Neonatologist who would like the opportunity to further improve and support Neonatal Care in  a rural and distant geography.

The post offers taking a lead role in Neonatal Medicine within NHS Highland. The post holder will have leadership responsibilities in Neonatal Simulation, Transitional Care and liaise on with Rural teams in the Highland.

This is a new post after a successful Business Case to expand our team to expand and maintain the delivery of safe neonatal care.

The post involves participating in a range of general paediatric outpatient clinics and hot week/On calls responsibilities for the Neonatal units and Highland Children’s and we have a robust middle grade rota and consultants do not provide resident on-call cover.

The on call (Out of Hours ) duties are all second consultant on call to support the first on call consultant with neonatal emergencies.

The establishment currently comprises 10 hospital consultant paediatricians, increasing to 12 (6 WTE, 5 part-time 2.9 WTE, 1 combined post 0.9wte) in Hospital and community paediatrics and 5 (3.7 WTE) community consultant paediatricians (the latter do not take part in out of hours work).

The Highlands offer unparalleled opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as hill walking, golf and sailing, and an excellent quality of life. Inverness is a wonderful place to live and work, and an ideal place to raise a family, with local schooling of very high standards. The city has excellent shops and restaurants and Eden Court Theatre has a varied and exciting programme of cultural activities.  Inverness is well connected by road, rail and air to major UK and European cities.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
