An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Perinatal Mental Health Nurse (RMN) within NHS Fife Health and Social Care Partnership. The successful candidate will be pivotal in the leadership of the team and continued development of the Perinatal Mental Health Service.  The post is currently funded until end of March 2025 in the first instance, with further funding to be agreed with the Scottish Government. (post has been fully funded since 2021) 

The Perinatal Mental Health Nurse will focus on the prevention, detection, early intervention care and treatment of new or pre-existing mental illness occurring in women during pregnancy or the first postnatal year.  In addition you will provide pre-conception advice for women at high risk of severe postpartum mental illness.  You will provide assessment and facilitation of the mother-infant relationship and promote infant development in the context of maternal mental illness. You will act as a mental health Liaison Nurse to the wider maternity service.  You will be responsible for the management of Band 6 Perinatal Mental Health Nurses as well as the day to day management of the service.

The role will require you to respond to an ever changing and demanding working environment. You will be responsible for delivering safe effective patient-focused care to women experiencing mental health difficulties during the perinatal period, across a wide spectrum of mental health diagnosis and complexity.  This will require you to exercise initiative and autonomy to anticipate and respond to the unpredictability of referrals and the complex demands they present. You will also have the opportunity to provide learning for Peers, Student Nurses and Medical Students, in both General and Mental Health placements and other Health Care Professionals.

Applications for this post are invited from experienced RMN’s, able to demonstrate enhanced skills, knowledge and experience of working with patients presenting with a range of mental health problems.  The successful applicant will have experience of team working, problem solving, flexibility, high-level communication skills, continuing personal development and change management. A commitment to partnership working with a range of stakeholders is also essential. The successful candidate will have significant experience at Band 6 and have demonstrable experience and/or interest in Women’s mental health.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  Your offer/contract of employment will therefore reflect the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Hiring Manager.
