Payroll Officer Band 4 /Trainee Payroll Officer Annex 21 Paragraph 2 (iii)  - 2 Posts

Applications are invited from individuals who wish to pursue a career in Payroll and will enjoy working in a busy, professional environment within NHS Tayside’s Payroll Services Department currently based in Maryfield House, Dundee. but scheduled to move location to the MacKenzie Building at Ninewells Hospital in November 2024. Salary Scale: £27598 - £30019 on completion of training. Initial appointment to trainee post is as per Annexe 21 of AfC Terms and Conditions

Hours of work are 37.00 per week

The Payroll team are responsible for processing weekly and monthly pays to approximately 19000 staff.   

You will progress though a structured training programme and during this time you will be paid Trainee Payroll Officer Band 4 £23151 during the training period in line with NHS Tayside’s commitment to pay National Living Wage. During this time you will also be required to study towards the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) Payroll Technician Certificate. On successful completion of this training programme and qualification you will be equipped to progressively manage a diverse workload to exacting deadlines and to progress your career in NHS payroll. The Band 4 salary scale of £27598 rising to a maximum of £30019 will subsequently apply.

Candidates who already hold the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) Payroll Technician Certificate and have recent relevant experience as a trained Payroll Officer within an NHS Payroll Team will automatically progress to the Band 4 salary scale.  

Applicants should possess 4 or more qualifications at National 5 level or above (or equivalent), which must include Maths and English, or have equivalent experience in a Payroll setting. A keen eye for attention to detail is required as well as maintaining high standards of accuracy, whilst working to strict deadlines .Good communication skills and a team player are also key requirements of this post.
Successful candidates will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
