Position

An opportunity has arisen for a Radiographer to train as an Advanced Practitioner in MSK Radiographic Image Interpretation.  This post falls under Annex 21 conditions and you will be paid 75% of the maximum point of band 7 during the training period, which should last no more than 12 months.

Ayrshire and Arran based you will undertake a CoR accredited PgC in image interpretation at Salford University starting September 2024

What you will do:

You will provide a specialist practitioner role by carrying out plain film reporting for the A/E clinical pathway. In doing so, you will assess their own specialist workload of patients and produce and maintain the associated reports/patient records. A major component of this role will be to supervise and teach other radiographers (including the newly qualified), radiologists, students and assistant practitioners.

You will support developments in radiographer reporting within the Directorate, to enhance patient care across the service. Perform radiography and report initially on appendicular and axial skeletal examinations produced within the A/E environment. This is expected to extend to examinations referred from the community, out patients and in patients. Monitor the accuracy and efficacy of your own reports and be an expert clinician within the radiographer reporting service.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

  • 5 years post registration experience

  • Experience of working at a supervisory level

  • experience of working within another modality other than plain film


Hours: 37 per week

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff)  until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Ayrshire and Arran is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so
