Link Worker – Improving the Cancer Journey (2 positions)
Band 4 £29,102 - £31,523 including Distance Islands Allowance pro rata per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and enthusiastic person to work as part of the new ‘Improving the Cancer Journey’ Team based in the Directorate of Public Health, NHS Orkney as a Band 4 Link Worker. The purpose of the ‘Improving the Cancer Journey’ service is to help identify sources of support that the person might engage with to relieve their non-clinical concerns. These concerns might include, but are not limited to, financial assistance, housing modifications, finding carers, transport and mobility, finding emotional support, and family or relationship concerns.

You will be a member of the Public Health Team working to implement the MacMillan funded ‘Improving the Cancer Journey’ project providing a person centered service that enables people affected by cancer to navigate the health, social care and wider systems to access practical, emotional and social support.  You will promote self-management and support for people to live well addressing their non-clinical holistic needs during and after cancer treatment as well as working across organisational boundaries with partners to ensure the best possible outcomes for people affected by cancer.  To achieve this, you should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to build and maintain relationships based on trust and respect, recognising people as experts in their lives.

As there are two part-time positions available, we are open to discussing more or less hours with our successful candidates, up to a maximum of 44.4 hours combined. 

For this role you will need to be educated to a HNC level in a relevant area such as Health and Social Care or Community Development. Additionally, you should have the ability to demonstrate discretion and confidentiality, be able to provide evidence of your skills in engaging with people using flexible and innovative method and have the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.
