An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, committed and clinically excellent midwife to join our team and develop the role of Consultant Midwife. The aim of the Consultant Midwife is to be a role model leading expert practice in midwifery, and to ensure all midwifery practice is underpinned by a philosophy of maximising health for women of childbearing age. The postholder will empower midwives to promote the public health agenda throughout the pregnancy journey.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional individual with vision, drive, passion and intellect as well as a broad range of strategic and professional skills. The individual must be fully committed to midwifery practice, safety and be able to demonstrate a high level of organisational, analytical and leadership skills. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence and be a team player.
As a visible and credible leader, the successful candidate will provide highly specialist expert advice on all aspects of midwifery care across NHS Forth Valley with an emphasis on facilitating midwife led practice in all care settings. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership in the development of maternity services, raise the profile of midwifery and develop excellence in clinical practice contributing to national and local policy.
The role will have a clinical element, enabling the successful candidate to be an expert advisor, a role model and to lead expert practice in midwifery, ensuring all midwifery practice is evidence based and patient centred. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the education, training and development of student midwives, midwives, nurses, as well as clinical support workers.
There is an expectation to develop links with higher education institutions contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of education, and act as a teaching resource in order to ensure that the practice link is robust. The Consultant Midwife will also be an active participant in clinical research aligning outcomes with clinical care.
The post holder must be educated to Master’ Degree level in a midwifery related area, and be a practising Registered Midwife with an effective NMC registration. The postholder should also have significant clinical experience in a variety of areas.
