NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services. We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. It is also home to the Edinburgh Cancer Centre (ECC), which offers specialist cancer services for the Southeast of Scotland Cancer Network, treating oncology and haematology patients within day-case, outpatient and inpatient settings.

The pharmacy technicians in the service are an essential, highly valued and integral part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) delivering systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) services. We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join our pharmacy team at ECC. The team is committed to service modernisation and developing new roles for our technical team including clinical and patient-facing roles. We invite applicants with post qualification knowledge and experience of dispensary and aseptic services to join us at this exciting time in our upgraded facilities as we continue to develop new systems of work. This role will be rotational with opportunities to work in the day-case, inpatient and outpatient setting.

You must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have a recognised qualification at HNC level in Pharmacy Services Development and Management, or equivalent experience, and support will be given to achieve completion of HN Unit in Procedures for Pharmacy Aseptic Checking Technicians, PDA in Final Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician, PDA in Assessment and Supply of Individual Patients' Medicines, PDA in Workplace Assessment Using Direct Methods and the NES Leadership: Taste of Leadership course.
