Job Advert

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinically focused and motivated pharmacist to join the pharmacy team at Caithness General Hospital on a bank basis.  This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist who may wish to work flexibly and/or build up and maintain experience.

This post will involve working with the pharmacy team in a rural general hospital setting, offering a diverse experience whilst allowing the successful candidate to develop and build upon generalist clinical knowledge and skills across a wide range of areas.  Supervision, training and support will be available as required.

The successful candidate will assist with the training and development of student pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. We are also looking at opportunities for pharmacy support workers to play a valuable role within the overall pharmacy skills set.

Candidates should be good communicators; enthusiastic; self-motivated; a strong team player; curious and excited to learn; and be able to problem solve and prioritise. You will be a registered pharmacist with a Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent and relevant post-registration experience. Post-graduate qualifications, e.g. a Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy and Independent Prescribing are desirable.  As a department, training and education is a priority and we are committed to our pharmacists becoming credentialed at RPS Core Advanced level and will provide support to help achieve this.

This is an exciting time to join our friendly pharmacy team as we work towards transforming the way we approach patient care.  As well as developing the clinical roles of pharmacy support staff, Caithness General Hospital has recently implemented Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicine Administration (HEPMA) system.

Caithness General Hospital (www.cgh.scot.nhs.uk) is a welcoming and supportive environment to work in and you will quickly get to know the wider hospital team.  Not only that, you will have the opportunity to live in one of Scotland’s most beautiful unspoilt areas which offers an excellent quality of life, low pollution and crime, excellent schools, a unique culture and amazing scenery – get a flavour of what’s on offer at: player.vimeo.com/video/157219617

This is a bank post with hours to be worked flexibly in accordance with service requirements.

Informal enquiries are welcome, to Catriona Innes, Pharmacy Team Lead, Tel: 01955 880264 or email catriona.innes@nhs.scot.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
