NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern is Shift pattern is predominantly Monday- Friday covering clinical hours, however flexibility may be required to accommodate the needs of the service.
NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced and motivated individual to join the Forensic Directorate as a Practice Development Nurse.
As an integral member of the senior management team you will be line managed and professionally accountable to the Nurse Consultant. The PDN is therefore required to work alongside members of the diverse multi-disciplinary/ integrated teams to quality assure and support professional and practice nursing development. You will provide visible leadership, coaching and mentoring for in forensic patient and community mental health nursing, contributing to the continuous quality improvement of care delivery in practice. You will lead on specific areas of work as delegated and will frame their practice within the sub-roles of: Expert practice, Professional leadership, Education, training and development, Practice/service development, research, audit and evaluation, Change management and Quality person centred care.
This will be delivered through a highly visible presence within inpatient care areas and the community setting and will be underpinned by demonstrable values based approach to the delivery of compassionate, safe and effective patient care. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse ( RNMH or RNLD) with the NMC and that you have evidence of CPD with direct relevance to this post. You should have experience working within a mental health nursing practice at a senior level.
