Trainee Health Care Support Worker Band 2/Healthcare Support Worker Band 3


PERMANENT– 37hrs/week


An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated individual to become an integral part of the multidisciplinary team within the Minor Procedure Unit at Stracathro Regional Treatment Centre. 


You will be required to work both in Procedure Room and Admission/Discharge Area, as well as supporting the day to day work of the nursing team to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, person-centred care for patients attending the SRTC Minor Procedure Unit.

We are recruiting Band 2 Healthcare Support Workers to training posts, where on successful completion of in house training you will progress to a Band 3.


Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential

Previous experience and/or consolidation of practice within a care environment/ role is desirable. Appropriate training and support will be given for patient care training as required by the service.

You will be given the opportunity to contribute to the development of the department, and may take forward new initiatives within a busy multi-disciplinary team.

Education level required:


At or working towards HNC at  Level 7 or SVQ*/ PDA in healthcare at SCQF level 6 or 7, or equivalent experience working within a caring environment/role or equivalent

 At or working towards Maths / Numeracy at SCQF level 5 as well as English / Communications qualifications are required at SCQF level 6


In addition the successful applicant will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.


Hours of work are 37hrs/week (Monday-Friday 8.30-4.30), however a range of shift patterns including weekdays, evenings and weekends may be required.


NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
