Senior Visual Field Technician / Team Lead Band 4

37 hours Permanent

A vacancy has arisen for a full time permanent (37.0 hours) per week Senior Visual Field Technician / Team Lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of the visual fields team of 8 field technicians / orthoptic assistants and will be professionally accountable and report directly to the Deputy Lead Orthoptist.

The clinical role involves undertaking visual field assessments using a variety of dedicated equipment primarily for the adult glaucoma & neuro-ophthalmology services. Opportunity to participate in the Orthoptic led pre-school vision screening programme is also available.

You should be educated to SCQF level 7 e.g. SVQ Level 3 training in healthcare or equivalent.

Previous experience working within Ophthalmology demonstrating a portfolio of specialised ophthalmology competencies including static and kinetic (neurological) visual field testing, visual acuity testing in adults and paediatrics, i-care applanation tonometry and focimetry is required.

Good hand eye co-ordination and attention to detail is required for this role. You should demonstrate skills in engaging with people and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Evidence of team working skills with the ability to work using own initiative. Problem solving, time management & organisational skills are also essential.

Completion of Professional Development Leadership in house training- including Recruitment, TURAS appraisal, Health and Safety and relevant staff management courses with 6 months of commencing post will be arranged once the successful applicant is in post.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.
