NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist prescriber to join an established prescriber workforce, as an Advanced Pharmacist Prescriber, within the wider Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC), Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services (ADRS).
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services manage a system of care for individuals with problem drug and alcohol use in the largest health board in Scotland. The health board includes some of the most deprived areas in the UK, with the highest prevalence of problem drug use and alcohol related harms. The provision of accessible, high quality and recovery orientated services are an important component of addressing public health needs and tackling health inequalities.
Treatment, care and support for drug and alcohol use is delivered through integrated working between health and social services. As well as being one of the largest and most dynamic drug and alcohol treatment service providers in Europe, our services are also at the forefront of service developments in many areas including the innovative Enhanced Drug Treatment Service, community based Hepatitis C and HIV care pathways and community based recovery orientated systems of care.
The Advanced Pharmacist Prescriber will deliver a wide range of interventions to individuals who require support with drug and alcohol use, with the aim of improving health and social outcomes. These include review of health needs, medication assisted treatment, alcohol care and treatment, prescribing and providing testing and treatment for Hepatitis C and HIV, in addition to providing a wide range of harm reduction interventions. The post holder will work as part of a wider a multi-disciplinary / multi agency workforce, working in partnership with a wide range of management structures, staffing groups, treatment and care services, primary care and Tier 4 services, statutory services and voluntary agencies,
The Advanced Pharmacist Prescriber will work as an independent prescriber, prescribing for patients attached to their prescribing clinic caseload and, when needed, for patients out with their caseload, working in a variety of prescribing roles. Prescribing locations will be determined by the requirements of NHS GGC Alcohol & Drug Recovery Services with line management provided by Senior Medical Staff and professional support from the ADRS Lead Pharmacist and Senior Advanced Pharmacist.
Candidates interested in applying for the post should be able to demonstrate working at a senior pharmacist level, working autonomously, making high level clinical decisions. Candidates must have an in depth knowledge and understanding of non- medical prescribing, relevant national standards and guidelines, formularies and CD legislation, with a specialist interest to work in the field. A Master’s Degree in Pharmacy & Independent Prescriber qualification is essential and candidates must have active prescribing experience.
