NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint an enthusiastic colleague to the post of Specialist Doctor in Rheumatology.


The successful applicant will join the consultant-led Rheumatology team and will share responsibility for providing an excellent and comprehensive clinical service in Forth Valley.  The successful applicant will undertake 5 Rheumatology clinics per week which will include General Rheumatology, Early Arthritis and GCA/ vasculitis clinics. The successful applicant will see rheumatology ward referrals, provide advice and guidance to primary care and support queries arising from the broader rheumatology team which include specialist nurses and other Allied Health Professionals.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Rheumatology department at NHS Forth Valley based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital but also with clinics at Stirling Community Hospital. (You may be required to work on a permanent or temporary basis elsewhere within the board)


It is essential that the candidate applying for this post has broad experience in common Rheumatolgical disorders including inflammatory arthritis, soft tissue disorders and connective tissue diseases and that they are competent in the management of biological therapies. We would wish to encourage applicants with sub-speciality and clinical research interests to apply for this position

All members of the rheumatology multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

Unplanned Care Division

Main responsibilities:


General Rheumatology outpatient clinics – including Early Arthritis, Vasculitis, GCA and as     developed speciality clinics in seronegative spondyloarthropathies and psoriatic arthritis

  •  Inpatient Rheumatology Ward Referrals and Reviews
  • Participation in weekly Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings
  • Support and involvement in Junior Doctors, Nurse and other Allied Health professionals training/supervision
  • Participation in Clinical Governance
  • Management of Advice and Guidance and Referral Assessment
