PHARMACY DEPARTMENT, NINEWELLS HOSPITAL
TRAINEE ROTATIONAL Pharmacy SUPPORT WORKER
Band 2 to Band 3*
Are you interested in an opportunity to train while working towards a career in pharmacy?
Applications are invited from individuals with an interest in healthcare to join the pharmacy team in Ninewells Hospital as a Trainee Rotational Pharmacy Support Worker. Hospital or pharmacy experience is not essential as full training will be provided.
The role includes dispensing, providing ward stock management services, picking and issuing medicines and checking stock. You will work within the different areas of pharmacy, undertaking training and gathering evidence of competence while contributing to the delivery of pharmacy services.
*On successful completion of the training framework & post training interview the candidate will transfer to a Rotational Pharmacy Support Worker post (Band 3).

- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Flexible and able to adjust to the needs of the service on a daily basis
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use a keyboard, computer and other electronic devices / equipment effectively
Training framework includes
- NHS Scotland Healthcare Support Worker induction standards
- GPhC approved pharmacy support worker course (eLearning)
- Local PSW competency training and assessment
- Read, understand and follow standard operating procedures
The training framework is expected to take 15 months to complete although this will vary depending on individual candidate progress rates.
You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
Hours of work are 37 hours per week (over 7 days). Participation in extended hours, public holidays and weekend working rotas is required.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
