The shift pattern is 5 days over a seven-day service which will include Public holidays, Weekends, OOH’s and backshifts. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse with significant community experience and an 1st level degree or equivalent to undertake and complete the PgD in Advancing District Nursing Practice at Glasgow Caledonian University commencing September 2024.
The course is offered on a part time basis over 2 years. You will be supported to attend university and have protected study leave during the academic semesters. While not at university you will be in practice as part of the community team. Working pattern is 5 days over a seven-day service which will include Public Holidays, Weekends, OOH’s and backshifts. The candidates must hold an appropriate academic credit rating which is normally a degree and must evidence recent academic study. For the duration of the course the candidates will be employed as SPQ students – Community Staff nurse Band 5 with managerial responsibility for a caseload. Successful Students on passing required modules will progress to Associate District Charge Nurses in their second year of training whereby they will receive an uplift to a band 6. On successful completion of the course, you will be considered for a permanent band 6 District Nursing post within Renfrewshire HSCP. Preference to geographical area will be considered but can be any base within Renfrewshire HSCP.
Candidates should be self-motivated practitioners and able to demonstrate an evidence-based approach to practice. The diversity and on-going development of services within primary care requires clinical practitioners that are committed to enhancing their own skills through CPD and a commitment to lifelong learning. They must be able to demonstrate leadership and communication skills. In the practice setting students will be supported by a Community Practice Teacher/Practice Assessor who will help students to develop a program of learning experiences and who is responsible for assessment of competence.
The learning outcomes of the modules are achieved by both university and practice-based learning and are assessed by a variety of methods including written assignments, examination, and a practice learning plan. Successful candidate’s course fees will be paid by Renfrewshire HSCP. Student’s will be eligible for travel expenses from clinical placement to clients’ homes or when out on clinical work. Travel expenses to and from the university will not be reimbursed.
