This post is advertised as a full time post however we are happy to consider part time and job share positions in line with the service requirements.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Prosthetist within the Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology (SMART) Centre. The SMART Centre is one of 5 centres in Scotland (Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow and Inverness) providing Rehabilitation Technology Services and covers Lothian, Fife and the Borders (approx. 25% of Scotland’s population). These include Mobility and Postural Services (wheelchairs and special seating), Prosthetics, Orthotics, Bioengineering Services, a Disabled Living Centre and Gait Analysis Service. We are also one of two Centres in Scotland providing a national Specialist Prosthetics Service and we also provide a national Driving Assessment Service and Spinal Orthotics Service.

SMART is part of the Rehabilitation Service of the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. The department has its own specialist workshops and stores on site. SMART workshops provide in-house manufacturing and (outsourced) modified medical devices across the range of activities mentioned above.

The Prosthetics services consists of the Head of Prosthetics and Orthotics Services, Prosthetics Team Leads, Prosthetists and Prosthetics Technicians. The Senior Prosthetist is responsible for providing high quality specialist life-long prosthetics care to patients with amputation/s or congenital limb loss, in a clinical environment. This service should be patient centered and ensure clinical and cost effectiveness.  We require an individual with good interpersonal and communication skills who can demonstrate that they work well as part of a team. The post holder manages their own clinical case load.

Prosthetics patients are mainly seen at the SMART Centre in Edinburgh, but there may be a requirement to see patients at satellite clinics at other centres as part of the Scottish Specialist Prosthetics Service.

If you wish further information about the services within SMART you can visit the SMART Website – www.smart.scot.nhs.uk or for a confidential discussion or further details please contact Carol Orr or Carly Scott (Prosthetics Team Lead) on Tel. 01314464506 or 01315379440.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.
