Two Consultant Posts in Palliative Medicine WTE (10 PA inc 2 SPA)

We are seeking two enthusiastic Consultants in Palliative Medicine to join a creative and committed multi-disciplinary specialist palliative care team.

Both Consultants will be based at the St Margaret of Scotland Hospice, 7 sessions and each post holder will work on a rotational 3 session basis in the Vale of Leven Hospital (Clyde Sector, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde) and the South Sector (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde) 

At present there are no formal specialist palliative medicine services within the Vale of Leven Hospital.  In response to need, there is a commitment to develop and expand the Specialist Palliative Care service in the Vale of Leven Hospital.  

The proposed 3 sessions in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital will join the established specialist palliative care team comprising existing consultants, specialty doctors, clinical nurse specialists, specialist pharmacists and administration.

In the Hospice the Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Consultants with a Specialist Interest in Palliative Medicine, Locum Hospice Physicians, Sessional GPs,  Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners from Allied Health Professionals, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Worker and Specialist Pharmacists combine to provide a comprehensive active rehabilitative palliative care service which will support the development of these new rotational posts.

Within the Hospice and the acute sector there is an existing active programme of undergraduate and postgraduate education in palliative care with the undergraduate education coordinated for the medical students through the University of Glasgow. The Hospice also has a formal teaching link with Glasgow Caledonian University - School of Health & Life Sciences.

There is opportunity to further develop skills in conjunction with researchers and postgraduate teachers from the surrounding Universities.  Candidates with appropriate academic track record will be eligible to apply for an Honorary Academic appointment with Glasgow University.

The principal place of employment is St Margaret of Scotland Hospice but there is potential for the new post holders to rotate clinical and managerial roles between the NHS, Hospice and Community.  The post-holder will hold an NHS Consultant Contract and an Honorary St Margaret of Scotland Hospice Contract.

Contractual arrangements

The contract for this post will be held by NHSGGC reflecting established partnership arrangements which provide the post holder with NHS terms and conditions including membership of the NHS pension scheme.

Candidates should be on or be eligible for inclusion on the GMC specialist register for Palliative Medicine or be within 6 months of gaining the CCT from the date of interview.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.  Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
