STUDENT OPERATING DEPARTMENT PRACTITIONER


BAND 5 (ANNEXE 21)


Full Time / Permanent


Salary Scale £24,670 - £30,742 per annum (Fully Qualified)

Starting salary (Trainee Annexe 21) £21,519 per annum year 1


A trainee post with annexe 21 applied is paid a percentage of the fully qualified rate during the period of training as follows:-

Year 1: 65% of the pay band maximum, Year 2: 70% of the pay band maximum, Year 3: 75% of the pay band maximum


An exciting opportunity has arisen in which a HCSW or assistant perioperative practitioner can apply to study for the qualification of Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). Candidates should have a proven background in health care with experience in an operating department  desirable.


The Degree in Operating Department Practice (subject to HCPC approval) will run as a 3 year distance learning course supported by the University of the West of Scotland. You will have 1 study day per week with the rest of your time spent in clinical practice on placements. You may be required to travel within Highland and elsewhere for some of your placements.


Entry Requirements


The minimum academic requirements for entry to the programme are:-


Passes in 5 Scottish National Qualifications (or equivalent) including 3 at ‘Higher’ level with a grade ‘C’ result or above.

OR

SVQ level 7/8, or equivalent record of academic achievement. 


Please note successful applicants will be allocated annual level throughout the programme and this is not personally variable.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
