Research nurse

Permanent

Band 6 ( 5 )

We are looking to recruit an experienced nurse to an exciting and challenging research post that will be initially based in the Oncology department within the Anchor Unit at ARI and in time moving to the Baird centre. This post will be predominantly covering our busy breast unit portfolio and you will be part of a well-established and friendly team of research nurses and data managers. The post will allow you to develop the research nurse skills required to deliver exceptional clinical and research care to patients involved in clinical research studies.

You will assist in the delivery of direct /indirect care, learn about the patient’s pathway and have involvement with treatments of those participating in research trials. This will include trial set up, recruitment and monitoring of study patients. It would also require the accurate collation of data, liaising with data monitors and the national trial centres. The main duties/responsibilities of the post will be working on a variety of clinical research studies within the breast unit portfolio, under the direction of Breast surgeons and Medical /Clinical Oncologists.

This post would be an opportunity for a nurse with at least 2 years post registration experience and a minimum of one year clinical research experience. The successful candidate will require to have excellent communication skills, with a flexible approach to work and a passion to learn. In time the incumbent will require to work independently managing their patient caseload.

Experience in Oncology is advantageous.

Consideration will be given to nurses with little or no research experience but who have a genuine interest in moving into clinical research. In this situation, the nurse may be required to work through a pre-determined development programme and KSF outline enabling progression to the Band 6 foundation requirement for the post after at least 24 months at Band 5.
