We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift patter for this position is to be agreed with the successful candidate.

Glasgow is a vibrant city bursting with character and personality where you will find world famous visitor attractions, a contemporary food and drink scene and legendary nightlife. Within South Sector the AHP teams work together supporting each other to ensure we deliver high quality care for our patients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 occupational therapist to join the Hyper Acute Major Trauma In-Reach Team based in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). The successful candidate must have experience and a specialist interest in neuro rehabilitation.

It is essential that you are educated to Diploma/Degree level in occupational therapy and are registered with the HCPC. You should have significant post graduate experience with previous clinical experience in neuro rehabilitation.

The Hyper Acute Major Trauma Team is part of the adult West of Scotland Major Trauma Network. The current model of service delivery is on an in-reach basis within the QEUH, however as this is a new service and the model of delivery may change over time. Patients seen within this service have Category A rehabilitation needs as described within the British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (BSRM) guidelines. All patient have experienced a traumatic mechanism of injury, which has resulted in them having complex rehabilitation needs. The caseload varies from patients with Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC), to those who are mobile with significant cognitive, communication & behavioural needs.

We are a specialist multidisciplinary team consisting of clinical neuropsychologists, dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists & rehabilitation support workers (band 3 & 4). We provide early intensive rehabilitation to patients who have complex rehabilitation needs who are located within various departments across the QEUH site. This may include critical care, Institute of Neuro Sciences (INS), Major Trauma ward & various general medical & surgical wards. We work closely with rehabilitation medicine consultants from Neuro Rehabilitation Unit (NRU) & link in with Older Peoples Services (OPS) staff for advice & support as required.

Our service aims to provide high quality goal orientated rehabilitation, to ensure patients achieve their maximum functional potential. The service covers an extensive geographical catchment area, therefore knowledge of rehabilitation services within the West of Scotland is desirable.

You will be actively involved in service development and service change within the team. Strong interpersonal skills & a positive, proactive approach to service & professional development are essential. You will be actively encouraged to develop through your 4 pillars of practice while participating in CPD, audit and research.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
