Annex 21 to be applied - £21313 in year 1 and £22514 in year 2

Would you like the opportunity to earn while you learn, work towards a professional qualification and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council?

We are looking to recruit motivated and committed trainee pharmacy technicians to undertake a 2 year distance learning training programme during which you will work towards the Diploma in Pharmacy Services. This includes completing the PDA in Pharmacy Services (SCQF 7) and SVQ in Pharmacy Services (SCQF 8) while developing your knowledge and skills under the supervision and support of our pharmacy team.

For this role you will be based in the pharmacy department at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and gain experience working through the various aspects of our pharmacy service including Purchasing, Storage and Distribution, Clinical, Dispensary and Quality Assurance. One day a week during Scottish term time is dedicated towards the study component of the course where candidates can study from home completing their interactive training modules.

There has been significant investment in pharmacy services in NHS Highland so this is a really exciting time to join our hospital pharmacy team. We introduced robotics in 2021 in our Distribution and Dispensary services and HEPMA is currently being rolled out across the board, 2 sites have gone live already and active planning is in place for other sites.

To apply for this post applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

National 5 qualifications at Grade A to C in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English/ESOL or completion of the Access to Pharmacy Services (SCQF level 5), NC in Pharmacy Services or NC in Applied Sciences

In addition to academic qualifications we are looking for applicants who can evidence an enthusiasm for learning and development, a professional attitude and a passion for working within the wider healthcare care team.

On successful completion of the programme and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council you will join the Pharmacy Technician Rotational team at Band 4 and have the opportunity to continue your career by completing the NHS Education Scotland Vocational Training Foundation Programme for Pharmacy Technicians.

The post involves working Monday to Friday with a weekend and public holiday commitment on a departmental rota basis.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Highland is unable to provide candidates with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
