NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to lead our dynamic Acute Medical Team. This is the main acute / emergency admitting hospital for Edinburgh and the Lothians region. The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the Physiotherapy team, on our General Medical Wards (ward 207 and 208) totalling 72 beds, and on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) totalling 67 beds. The Acute Medical team delivers physiotherapy in-patient service for a wide and varied range of medical, neurological, respiratory, orthopaedic, vestibular, musculoskeletal and complex / frailty presentations. It operates as a key part of the dynamic and responsive multidisciplinary team.
Candidates must demonstrate leadership skills to provide effective management for a team of static and rotational Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Support Workers who provide a seamless service to patients within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The Physiotherapy team comprises of band 4 to band 7 clinicians. This is a friendly and supportive team who take a collaborative approach to their clinical responsibilities and challenges. Your role will be to deliver effective supervision and appraisal to the band 4 to 6 team members, and be responsible for the speciality’s service delivery and development. You will carry a clinical caseload and will be an expert resource for physiotherapy in this clinical speciality working as part of a team to take on the most complex and challenging cases.
Candidates must display evidence of excellent clinical reasoning skills within the Acute Medicine population, as well as demonstrating an advanced ability to prioritise and discharge plan for this patient population. You should also have experience in service development to support a very proactive team who are involved in various Quality Improvement projects. We run a multi-strand in-service and CPD programme, with all staff participating in this learning as relevant to their skills and experience.
As Physiotherapy Team Lead you will work collaboratively with an established group of Band 7 Team Lead Physiotherapists across a range of organisational and professional topics as required by the department. This will ensure an equitable service is provided across the hospital site.
There is a regular weekend working rota (1 in 8) and overnight on-call commitment, with this being fully supported through a robust orientation programme.
