We are seeking enthusiastic committed General Practitioners with an MRCGP qualification; however applications from non General Practitioners with relevant experience will also be welcomed. Experience in Forensic Medicine is essential.
The role of the forensic physician is varied and interesting with on the job training available. The work is divided between custody healthcare and the performing of forensic medical examinations. We have an experienced autonomous team of Forensic & Custody Nurses who act as 'gatekeepers' to the service. The nurses manage patients in custody and coordinate and corroborate forensic examinations. The Forensic Physician will perform examinations and assessments of adults and children under the instruction of Police Scotland. This offers a diverse range of clinical presentations in an exciting and fluid environment. You are permitted a privileged insight into the inner workings of the police and criminal justice system with opportunities to present your findings in court.
You will be part of a team of 3 Forensic Physicians covering a 24/7 rota, one week working days and the other two covering 2 or 3 nights on call whilst also covering sexual offence forensic medical examinations.
Facilities include medical and forensic medical rooms in the police headquarters. The Service boasts a purpose built paediatric examination suite and a forensic examination suite
Your own transport & driving license is essential.
Post graduate examinations are currently available via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (a sub faculty of the Royal College of Physicians) and offer career development opportunities.
