Healthcare Improvement Scotland supports NHS Scotland and independent healthcare providers to improve and deliver the highest standard of health care to the people of Scotland. This role supports the work of the Quality Assurance and Regulation Directorate and the Regulation team which contributes to the regulation of medical exposure to radiation and of independent healthcare, to improve the care provided across Scotland.
There is an opportunity for an inspector to join the regulation team, primarily the regulation duties in relation to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R). Ideally you will have a background working in radiology or similar, be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the medical exposure to radiation and experience of local systems designed to deliver safe care including management or audit of IR(ME)R compliance. The role would be suitable for radiographers and clinical scientist with relevant experience.
You may also be asked to support the inspection team deliver the duties in relation the regulation of independent healthcare services. This will allow us to continue to build a sustainable and resilient national regulatory service for both IR(ME)R type inspections and support independent healthcare.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team which are making care better through the inspections and investigations, with a focus on improved outcomes for people experiencing care, their carers and families. You will also be expected to participate in other Quality Assurance Directorate activities as required.
To this end there is an opportunity for an inspector to be deployed to the Regulation team on a full-time basis. The key responsibilities for this role include:
• Undertake IR(ME)R inspections throughout Scotland,
• Conduct investigations of exposures much greater than intended and ensure that all reasonable steps are in place to prevent significant accidental or unintended exposure to ionizing radiation
• Development of inspection guidance and protocols,
• Inspect services delivering or administering ionising radiation to patients undergoing medical exposures.
Further duties may involve,
• Conducting complaints investigations at IHC services.
• The registration and inspection of independent healthcare services. This includes independent hospitals, hospices, private psychiatric hospitals, and independent clinics.
• Supporting other programmes of work as required.
Support will be provided to develop the skills and knowledge, within a skills framework.
Educated to degree level, master’s level (or with equivalent experience), you will be able to demonstrate clearly how your knowledge, skills and experience are particularly suited to the programme of work.
The role will require national travel to the relevant sites as part of the on-site activity and overnight stays.
