Reference - 197982

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full part time (40 hours per week) post based in the Roya Infirmary of Edinburgh, between February 2025 – August 2025.

It is anticipated that the successful candidates would participate in the junior rota but candidates with appropriate experience may be able to work on senior rota.  Development time will be available to pursue other interests (e.g. research, QI, accreditation in critical care echocardiography, simulation, critical care follow up). The posts are particularly suitable for candidates between core and specialty training, but those who have completed foundation training are also welcome to apply. The posts are EWTD compliant.

The Critical Care Fellowship offers an exciting opportunity to work in a busy Critical Care service in Scotland. Successful applicants will also enjoy living in Edinburgh, a vibrant modern capital city that has retained much of its historic architecture but is also famous for its festivals.

The posts are suitable for candidates who wish to develop clinical experience caring for the critically ill. As well as general intensive care, each unit within the region has its own sub-specialties:

  • The RIE unit also provides care for:
    • Major trauma
    • Neuro-intensive care
    • Solid organ transplantation (liver/kidney/pancreas)
    • TAAA vascular services
    • Hepatobiliary and upper gastrointestinal surgery
  • 2.       The WGH unit also provides care for:
    • Haematology and oncology patients
  • 3.       The SJH unit also provides care for:
    • ENT
    • Major Plastics

These posts will offer successful applicants the opportunity to develop their clinical and professional competence in a purposeful and supervised manner and assist in overall CV development.

The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
