Secondment/fixed term opportunity for 1 year for training post.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee SCP to work with the breast, plastic and orthopaedic teams working between NHS Forth Valley and NHS Lanarkshire. Training will be provided in University Hospital Wishaw, University Hospital Hairmyres, Forth Valley Royal Hospital and University Hospital Monklands and any successful candidate would need to be able to travel to work on each of these sites.
This post is offered on a one-year secondment/ fixed term basis and is open to applications from Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners or Allied Health Professionals.
Within the scope of the role, the Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) will be trained to see and assess new patients presenting to a one stop breast clinic. They will also manage long term follow up and family history patients doing virtual clinics and will be trained to perform minor surgical procedures. The SCP will communicate effectively with the patient and all members of the multidisciplinary team in the MDT, clinics and theatre environment.
The trainee Surgical Care Practitioner will practice under the supervision or direction of the Consultant Surgeon and a Surgical Care Practitioner mentor whilst undertaking and following the national curriculum framework.
There will be opportunity to do Master’s level study in breast examination and to have access to NHS Scotland Academy training courses.
During your 12 months with NHS Forth Valley you will be supported to gain advanced clinical skills and will be given regular opportunity to practically enhance and develop your own personal skill set.
