Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine with subspecialty Paediatric Emergency Medicine (7PAs)

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, part time (28 hours per week) post based in Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Young People.

The appointee will work as part of a team providing both initial and supervisory care to acutely injured and unwell children presenting to the Emergency Department with a wide variety of conditions. 

The post holder will, with the other EM consultants, be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the delivery of clinical care to all acutely injured and unwell children who attend the Emergency Department and to patients attending the departmental review clinic.
  • Ensuring patients/families are involved in decisions about their care and responding to their views.
  • Acting as team leader for the in-hospital Paediatric Emergency Team
  • Leading the hospital Major Trauma Team
  • Supporting the delivery of national and local performance and quality standards
  • Contributing to the supervision and training of non-consultant staff, doctors in training, nursing staff, AHPs and undergraduate students from the University of Edinburgh
  • Working closely with colleagues from other specialties and services to ensure the delivery of high-quality care throughout the patient journey
  • Maintaining and updating their own knowledge and skills, actively participating in appraisal and revalidation processes.
